For years I shied away from illustration.  I was stuck in an archaic frame of mind where an artist had to literally put pen to paper, and never ever should any form of tracing or using photographs be employed.  I used modern tools like graphics software, scanners and tablets to develop my design work and enhance photography, but I still kept illustration at arm’s length.

Then one day, I said “screw it”.  I decided that there’s no such thing as cheating when it comes to a final image.  Using Adobe Illustrator, found photos from the internet, and a whole lot of the undo button, I drafted up some sketches for playing cards.  Then I volunteered to help my friends’ bands and motorcycle clubs with their imagery.  Before long, I found myself looking at my posters on the wall in a Lucasarts studio… but that’s another story.
